What is the point?

Judging by how swollen my tummy has been this week, I knew it was going to be a bad idea to get on those scales this morning my loves ~ but I also knew that I had to grit my teeth and do it.  I have gained 4 1/4 pounds this week *sigh*  I'm beginning to wonder if there is any point at all to trying to shed this excess weight ~ especially since I just seem to be gaining even more!  I'm sorely tempted to just say "to hell with it" and forget about trying to lose weight altogether.  It's so depressing, sweetie~pies :-(

To be honest, I'm really not sure about where to go from here.  I need to think about it, I guess, and decide if the mental/emotional roller-coaster is worth it.  Perhaps I should just try to get on with my life as I am and stop thinking about weight-loss??

Your thoughts and advice would be so much appreciated, my loves!

Hi Sharon!
I know how you feel. Sad isn't it? Purely disgusting, I go through the same roller coaster. Have decided to bleep with it and just try to be more active and try to stay away from the goodies. When I was younger, it wasn't such a battle, I was chasing kids, and actually had a life. I gave up the "diet" and eat decent along with as much exercise I as I can take (it isn't much) and I haven't lost anything, but haven't gained anything either. Considering I don't have any metabolism to speak of, I think I am doing fine. My stamina is up, and that helps. I do as much walking as my bad lungs and bad hip bones will take. Just walking around the yard and playing with the dogs is getting easier.

We are all different and they don't give you diet (speed) pills at the doctor anymore, LOL! But lots of housework got done then and I lost weight - so applying that principal to my daily life and hoping I will eventually lose some weight. (Still need Hazel though)

When you go on a diet - you feel deprived....

I think I shall take your good advice, Sharon: eat healthily (most of the time) and as much exercise as I can manage!

Hi there, I'm wondering, I know this may seem somewhat a personal question, but have your bowels moved regularly? I ask this because I was trying to drop a few pounds so changed my eating but my tummy seemed to get larger and so did the number on the scale. Turns out I was "packed" and not "going" often enough hence the excess weight. You may just need to increase your fiber intake, this will make you feel fuller, and help reduce the tummy excess as well (my doc told me that and it worked) the weight started to come off, the fiber helped fill me up and keep me regular. good luck with the weighloss and please don't give up!! DO IT FOR YOU!!!

Hi Susan,

Thank you so much for leaving a comment, it's much appreciated (((hugs))) I am currently taking iron tablets so try to ensure that my fibre intake is good, as I know that they can cause constipation. I am going through the change and the swollen tummy seems to be connected to fluid retention. It's very frustrating as my periods are now on their own timetable, so I never quite know where I am!

I think the best thing I can do for now is to just eat as healthily as I can and exercise as much as my back problems permit. Eventually I will have come through the change and hopefully I will have shed at least some of this excess weight too :-)

Eating healthy is a great idea. Difficult if your're like me and love some junk foods (gummi bears, potato chips, hamburgers and fries) sigh. I managed to substitute them as much as possible with fruit. Vegetables were just to blah, but fruit are nice and sweet you know, strawberries are good for "the change" they keep away the hot flashes and the sweetness keeps away the sweettooth for junk and they're high in fiber too (but the seeds get trapped between the teeth ugh!) I wish you well with your goal.
