The Sunday Prayer

Dove of Peace by Pablo Picasso

Father, Mother, God,

Thank you for your presence during the hard and mean days.
For then we have you to lean upon.

Thank you for your presence during the bright and sunny days.
For then we can share that which we have with those who have less.

And thank you for your presence during the Holy Days.
For then we are able to celebrate you and our families and our friends

For those who have no voice, we ask you to speak.

For those who feel unworthy, we ask you to pour your love out in waterfalls of tenderness.

For those who live in pain, we ask you to bathe them in the river of your healing.

For those who are lonely, we ask you to keep them company.

For those who are depressed, we ask you to shower upon them the light of hope.

Dear Creator, You, the borderless sea of substance, we ask you to give to all the world that which we need most.....PEACE.

My life closed twice before its close

My life closed twice before its close -
It yet remains to see
If Immortality unveil
A third event to me

So huge, so hopeless to conceive
As these that twice befell.
Parting is all we know of heaven,
And all we need of hell.

Don't be Literary, Darling

Don't be literary, darling, don't be literary
If you're James in the morning you're Hemingway in bed
Don't talk of yourself in the style of your own obituary -
For who cares what they say of you after you're dead.

Don't always be a thought ahead and a move behind
Like a general reconnoitring dangerous ground,
This is a game it's much better to enter blind
And the one who wins is the one who is caught and bound.

If you can't be straight then just say nothing instead.
I'll know what you mean much better than if it was said.

Diary of a Dieter Week 13

start weight: 22st 13lbs (321 pounds)
current weight: 22st 3lbs (313 pounds)
total loss to date: 10lbs

Well, if you are very observant you will have noticed that a) I haven't posted in my dieting diary for a few weeks, and b) my weight is the same as it was on week 10!

I've had a very up-and-down few weeks, and haven't got into the dieting spirit at all.  In fact, the week before last I was really contemplating giving it all up ~ yet again ~ and cried off from going to the group meeting.  I just wasn't bothering to follow the plan and ended up feeling very miserable and sorry for myself.  I decided to get on my scales at home last week and wasn't surprised to see that I had put a few pounds back on.

I really didn't know whether to bother going back or not but I sent a text to Amanda, the lovely Slimming World group leader, and she encouraged me to keep going.  So back I went to group last week, expecting to see an increase of four or five pounds ~ so I was sort of pleased to find that I had "only" put on three!  To be perfectly honest with you all, I still haven't been following the plan properly over this last week but at least when I got weighed last night I found I had dropped those three pounds I had gained during the previous couple of weeks.

So now it really is crunch time.  I have had to think long and hard about whether or not I really want to lose my excess weight, and try to get fitter and healthier.  I am the only one who can do this, there is no fairy godmother available to wave her magic wand and grant me three wishes!  I think it's time to go back to the beginning and get on with the eating plan as if I had only just started at group.

Wish me luck!

The Voice

Woman much missed, how you call to me, call to me,
Saying that you are not as you were
When you had changed from the one who was all to me,
But as at first, when our day was fair.

Can it be you that I hear?  Let me view you, then,
Standing as when I drew near to the town
Where you would wait for me: yes, as I knew you then,
Even to the original air-blue gown!

Or is it only the breeze, in its listlessness
Travelling across the wet mead to me here,
You being ever dissolved to wan wistlessness,
Heard no more again far or near?

Thus I; faltering forward,
Leaves around me falling,
Wind oozing thin through the thorn from norward,
And the woman calling.

Meeting at Night

The grey sea and the long black land;
And the yellow half-moon large and low;
And the startled little waves that leap
In fiery ringlets from their sleep,
As I gain the cove with pushing prow,
And quench its speed i' the slushy sand.

Then a mile of warm sea-scented beach;
Three fields to cross till a farm appears;
A tap at the pane, the quick sharp scratch
And blue spurt of a lighted match,
And a voice less loud, thro' its joys and fears,
Than the two hearts beating each to each!
